Hillsboro Baptist Church is an Independent Fundamental Baptist church.  It was established as Messiah Baptist Church in 1983 by Pastor George Jobel.  The name was changed to Hillsboro Baptist Church in 1986.  The current Pastor, Paul Gaylord, was called to HBC in 1989.

Hillsboro Baptist Church holds to the traditional baptist distinctives.  These are:

  • B – Biblical Authority.  We believe the Bible is the final authority for all matters of faith and practice (2 Timothy 3:16; John 17:17; Acts 17:11; Hebrews 4:12; 2 Peter 1:20–21).
  • A – Autonomy of the local church.  We believe each local church is and should be independent of any hierarchical structure or government structure  (Colossians 1:18; Acts 13–14, 20:19–30; Ephesians 1:22–23).
  • P – Priesthood of the believer.  We believe that each and every believer has direct access to God through Jesus Christ and no other priestly function is constituted to act as intermediary between God and man other than Jesus Christ (Hebrews 4:14–16; 1 Timothy 2:5–6; 1 Peter 2:5–10).
  • T – Two offices.  We believe the only Biblically-ordained offices for the local church are the Pastor and the Deacon (Philippians 1:1; Acts 6:1–7; 1 Timothy 3:1–13; Titus 1:6–9; 1 Peter 5:1–4).
  • I – Individual soul liberty – We believe every person must make their own decision to call on Christ for salvation (Romans 10:9–17, 14:1–23).
  • S – Separation of church and state. We believe the state must have no power to to intervene in the free expression of religious faith, either privately or publicly, regardless of any position held by the individual (Matthew 22:21; Acts 5:29–31; Romans 13:1–4).
  • T – Two ordinances.  We believe the only ordinances the Bible teaches for the church are baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26; Acts 2:38–43, 8:36–38; Romans 6:1–6).
